A Pew Initiative of Food and Biotechnology survey reveals that 75 percent of Americans believe that they’ve never eaten a genetically engineered food. Yet 89 percent of soybeans and 61 percent of corn acreage in the United States today is genetically engineered. It also finds its way into many groceries as soy lecithin and corn syrup. Little wonder that the Pew findings also showed that only 29 percent of those surveyed trust the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, down from 41 percent five years ago.
