On Oct. 23, Seattle Mayor Tim Burgess joined the mayors of London, Paris, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Quito, Vancouver, Mexico City, Cape Town, Amman, and Copenhagen in signing on to the C40 Fossil-Fuel-Free Streets Declaration.

By signing the declaration, the city leaders are committing to green and healthy streets and “a future where walking, cycling, and shared mobility are how the majority of citizens move around our cities.”

Joining this initiative reaffirms Seattle’s commitment to accelerate the electrification of the city’s transportation system and transition our economy away from fossil fuels, according to city officials.

“With clean energy powering our transportation system and strong community support for bold climate action, Seattle continues to lead the way in showing how communities can reduce pollution,” said Mayor Tim Burgess. “Cities and counties will continue to drive meaningful climate action and create lasting public health improvements for our residents.”
