The Natural Awakenings Family History
Responding to her local holistic health community's need for an effective way to share information and connect with people searching for alternative therapies, healthy living entrepreneur Sharon Bruckman established Natural Awakenings magazine in 1994 in Naples, Florida. Success of the original Naples/Ft. Myers edition was immediate.
Two years later, an avid reader convinced her to launch a second edition in Sarasota, Florida and it became the prototype for a franchise network of like-minded people who value what this magazine brings to their communities.
In 1999 Bruckman formed Natural Awakenings Publishing Corporation to support the growing network of publishers. Today, franchise owners publish more than 80 independently owned editions with new magazines being added each year. Currently, magazines are published across the country in areas as diverse as Miami FL, Atlanta GA, Phoenix AZ, New Orleans LA, San Diego CA, Lehigh Valley PA, and Sante Fe NM. In each market, thousands of free copies are circulated at hundreds of public distribution points.
Presenting special features, interviews with national figures, and guest columns right along with local news briefs, stories, resource directories and a community calendar, Seattle Natural Awakenings is a free monthly publication dedicated to promoting and supporting healthy lifestyles and a healthy planet. With both a national and local focus seamlessly integrated into each issue, each month brings fresh perspective around a timely theme sure to pique reader's interests.
Ann Dorn brought Natural Awakenings to Seattle in April of 2011.
"Resulting in benefits like top quality national content, we have the advantage of being local owners committed to helping Seattle readers find and connect with outstanding natural businesses and services as part of a family of Natural Awakenings franchises publishing in over 80 cities across the United States."
"Being part of the Natural Awakenings network affords us strength of numbers.
